From the end-user point of view, the only relevant part of Dragon is your user profile and you will never have to start over again from scratch.

#DRAGON NATURALLY SPEAKING 10.1 MEDICAL INSTALL#
You will never have to attempt to install Ver. 10 to 12 (or DMPE 2 if you're using Dragon Medical) you can upgrade the entire user profile although we don't recommend using it. If you are upgrading from within 2 versions of Dragon, such as upgrading from Ver. When the next version of Dragon is released, you can import your previous vocabulary and commands. All you have to do, in DMPE 2, is export your personal commands (if you have any) and export your personal vocabulary as an XML file. Beginning with Dragon 2 - 12, we have been able to take everything that mattered with us, in our user profile for each new version of Dragon. We have been using NaturallySpeaking since 1996 (6 months before it was released to the public). Welcome to the World's Most Popular Speech Recognition Forum All that time, effort, and money would then be no longer of value? Having to start over from scratch? Doesn't seem like something I would want to invest in. If 10.1 doesn't work on 8, then what is to prevent Med Ed 2 from not working on Win 9. Imagine the scenario where someone purchases Medical Edition 2 for use on a Windows 8 computer, gets it all customized to their needs and special vocabulary and gets 98-99% accuracy, and then a few years down the line the computer dies and they go out and buy a new computer which will come with Windows 9.2 or 10.0. I assume that those who have tried using 10.1 on Windows 8 tried it with compatiblity mode and still had problems?

However, I have had success with other older software programs, like Matlab, installing under Windows 8 using the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter to "use" an earlier version of Windows that was more compatible. I do not own 10.1, so I am unable to test this myself.
